Better Together: Why Friendships at Work Matter

Work is better when we’re in it together. This International Friendship Day, we're celebrating the everyday connections that support our teams — and the people we care for. From frontline homes to support office teams, we asked our teams why workplace friendships matter, and how being better together helps us deliver real, consistent care.

Better Together: Why Friendships at Work Matter

At United for Care, we know that connection, care and community make all the difference — not just for the people we support, but for the people who show up every day to make that care possible.

Celebrating International Friendship Day

This International Friendship Day, we're celebrating the power of real workplace relationships — the ones built over time, in team chats, on shift, and around lunch tables. Because let’s be honest — the job is easier, the days are brighter, and the challenges feel lighter when you’ve got someone beside you who gets it.

We asked some of our team members why friendship at work matters. Here's what they said:

“It helps you feel safe — like someone has your back.”

“It makes the hard days a little lighter.”

“You can be yourself — and that makes work better.”

“It’s easier to give your best when you’re supported by the people around you.”

Friendship doesn’t always mean being best mates. Sometimes, it’s just a nod of encouragement. A shared laugh. Someone offering to swap a shift, or help with a tricky task. These small moments of connection help us feel seen, supported and part of something bigger — and that’s powerful.

Why Does It Matter So Much in Our Work?

Because when we’re connected, we care better.

Friendship and trust in the workplace have a ripple effect. For our frontline teams, it means better communication, smoother handovers, and a more united approach to supporting participants. When team members feel safe and respected, they can focus on building that same sense of safety and belonging in the homes they support.

For our participants, this translates into consistent care, positive environments, and stronger relationships with the people around them. They see — and feel — the difference when teams work well together.

And for our Support Office, friendships and connection mean stronger collaboration across departments. Whether it’s rostering, payroll, tech, quality or training — when support office teams feel connected to each other and to the frontline, they work more effectively to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. It’s how we stay responsive, efficient and focused on what matters most: the people we support.

What Being Better Together Really Means

The work we do isn’t always easy. But when there’s trust and respect across the team — whether it’s in a supported home, a community program, or a shared Teams channel — we’re more likely to go the extra mile, speak up when something’s not right, and back each other up when it counts.

This Friendship Day, we’re celebrating those everyday moments that remind us we’re not doing this alone.

📸 Keep an eye on our socials as we share snapshots and shout-outs from teams across United for Care — because behind every great service, there’s a group of people supporting each other to make it happen.

To every team member, across every site and office — thank you for the way you show up for your participants, your teammates, and your purpose.

We really are better together.
