Finding Independence with United for Care

When Damien joined United for Care, his goal was to build confidence and live more independently. A year later, he’s doing just that. With the right support and a caring community, the sky’s the limit. At United for Care, we build more than homes, we build belonging.

Finding Independence with United for Care

Over the past year, Damien’s confidence has grown steadily. He’s settled into life at his United for Care home and found happiness in the little things like trips to Westfield, a good bargain at Aldi, and spending time with the people around him. What really stands out is how much he’s developed, learning new skills, taking more initiative, and discovering what independence truly feels like.

Support that builds confidence

From the day Damien moved into his United for Care home, his support team focused on helping him with his goal to live more independently. Together, they’ve worked on everyday goals, cooking simple meals using the communal air fryer, running errands, and getting out into the community with more confidence.

“Damien’s grown so much in the past six months,” says his team. “He’s thoughtful, helpful, and really engaged. He’s proud of what he’s achieving.”

Behind that progress is the strength of United for Care’s clinically informed approach, ensuring each participant’s goals are supported through practical skill-building, consistency, and professional oversight that keeps wellbeing at the centre of everything.

A connected home

Damien’s home is a welcoming, supportive environment where people live independently while still having a close-knit community around them. The setup means he can have privacy when he wants it, and connection when he needs it.

He loves joining in games of UNO and Guess Who with other participants and staff, and watching game shows together in the lounge.

A year of growth

In just one year, Damien has become more confident, more connected, and more independent. His goal of doing things on his own is now part of his everyday life.

Stories like Damien’s show what happens when people are supported in the right way, with clinical insight, care, and a community that’s got their back.

More Than a Home

Damien’s story shows what home is really about. The feeling of safety, social connection and having support to learn and grow. Our Coming Home for Christmas stories celebrate the people behind that progress and the communities that make it real. 💚
